Surface inspection with trevista shape from shading
The automotive sector poses many challenges for machine vision. For example, sealing surfaces (on cylinder heads, gearbox housings, shift plate automatic gearboxes or other components) must be optically inspected for function-critical material defects such as pores, blowholes or damage caused by handling, such as scratches or impact marks. Changing surface conditions (e.g. washing residues, varying machining structure) pose a great challenge. In addition, varying degrees of gloss prevent process-reliable evaluation with conventional 2D camera systems.
AIT Goehner has developed a versatile solution for surface inspection based on Cognex trevista DOME. This involves
• process-safe detection of the smallest surface defects with minimal pseudo error rates despite different material and texture properties (see picture)
• a ready-made solution concept already available for many applications based on a modular principle
• a simple, intuitive set-up of the ProfiNet communication interface using "out-of-the-box" tools
• Visualisation of test results via flexible user interface
• a robust system for use directly at shop floor level
